Before business began to heat up for the evening, Drew McLeod emerged from the kitchen of his new Tallahassee restaurant in a chef coat.

One patch on the white garment trumpeted the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Educational Foundation. On the left breast, his name appeared in cursive, followed by “DGC,” all official looking and everything.

“I’m a certified Darn Good Cook,” McLeod said with a laugh.

Though not a certified chef, he believes he’s really cooking as owner of Savour, among the latest to join the Capital City’s growing downtown upscale dining scene.

Savour Executive Chef Ashley Mayo

Fine dining restaurant Savour located in downtown Tallahassee has named 23-year-old Ashley Mayo as the eatery's new executive chef.

"It's a blessing I didn't think I would (have) where I'm at, at 23," Mayo said in an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat.

Savour, owned by revered entrepreneur Drew McLeod, has been distinguished by several accolades, such as a six-time OpenTable "Diners' Choice" award winner, making it a widely recognized dining destination.

OpenTable's site says that these award-winning restaurants are known to "serve up creative dishes, unparalleled hospitality, and one-of-a-kind dining experiences for all occasions."

All of those things are made possible with the 'heart of the house' – the kitchen.

"I've always said that my legacy as a restaurateur, as an entrepreneur, is in the success of those that I've had the privilege of working with. She's a special talent," McLeod said. "To see people grow and prosper in the thing that they love the most is a joy to watch."

Menu items complement the flavor profiles of their dishes with ingredients from specialty farms like Play of Sunlight Mushrooms and Legacy Greens. They work closely with Executive Chef Ashley Mayo and the establishment’s prep team, led by Dee Rauh, to provide new and interesting offerings emphasizing “Fresh From Florida” products as much as possible. They also lean into “Fresh From Florida” award-winning Chef Justin Timineri’s insights and recipes to help come up with fresh ideas for the restaurant.

“As a lifelong Florida resident and 48-year hospitality industry veteran, I am proud to support the ‘Fresh From Florida’ campaign,” McLeod says.

Dining at Savour in Tallahassee was an absolute delight. The Southern-inspired ambiance set the tone for a warm, elegant evening. I enjoyed a perfectly prepared filet with asparagus, a classic Caesar salad, and a pour of Uncle Nearest bourbon that tied the meal together beautifully. The service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming—every detail made the experience feel special. Savour captures the essence of Southern hospitality while delivering fine dining at its best. ⭐ Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy an unforgettable night out in Tallahassee!

I have never had better service in my life. Came for a date night and our server was incredible. He didn’t rush us and we felt like we had the whole Place to ourselves. The food was unlike anything I’ve ever had it was amazing. Even the girl who ran our food was so attentive helpful. Over all if you want to feel like royalty come here.

From the moment we walked in, everything was perfection. We were warmly greeted by the maître d’, who was already expecting us, which immediately set the tone for a wonderful evening. We chose to sit at the bar, where both Sam and Alex delivered truly outstanding service—extremely personable, fun, and incredibly knowledgeable about the handcrafted cocktails, extensive wine list, and the menu. The filet was absolutely delicious, and Sam paired it perfectly with a bold Cabernet Sauvignon that elevated the entire dish. An unforgettable dining experience from start to finish.

Had made 7:00pm reservation (6) weeks in advance for a special table we had before, to celebrate a birthday. Came early (6:45pm) , but table had been given away. Instead seated in the loudest part of the resturant under bright lights and just outside the bathrooms. Asked for water, then had to ask for ice. Our cocktails were good, but they charged extra for olives in the martinis and charged me for ice for my drink on the rocks. Ordered a Caesars Salad to be split and was charged an extra $3 to split it. Other than noise and bright lights, food was good but no recognition for it being a birthday. I suggest that you bring a thick wallet.

We went for our anniversary so we had a reservation on a Saturday night. It was at 6:30 and not busy at that moment but by 7:30 they were full. It is very glamorous in its decor and we got one of the two tops with super comfy chairs. The menus were already on the table set up in Frames. The waiter, Jason, brought us the drinks menu and we ordered from the bar. I had just had scallops the night before so I was going to try the steak...but then they had a lovely snapper special on grits with a bourbon slaw. My husband ended up with the filet and asparagus. I tasted his filet, cooked perfectly at medium rare and seasoned well, delicious! It rivaled another new steak house in town just down the road. I mentioned to the server that everything was perfect but I would have liked more than just a tablespoon of slaw on top of the fish. He came back in a moment with a larger portion....Yes! We both had dessert, grown up keylime pie and flourless chocolate cake. They were both very good. All in all a great experience and I would go back.
